Who we are

The Data Visualization Interest Group (DVIG) is an initiative within the National Art Education Association (NAEA) that focuses on promoting the use of data visualization in art education across all levels, from K-12 to higher education. The DVIG employs interdisciplinary research methods, and its members include art educators, researchers, and artists. At its core, the group centralizes the integration of data visualization into teaching practices and uses cutting-edge data visualization techniques to conduct art education research. The group also examines the potential of data visualization as a tool for social activism, empowering students to use visual communication for positive change. As a group, the DVIG strives to foster meaningful encounters with data that nurture critical thinking skills through visual literacy, media literacy, and data literacy.
